IMSmarter
I’ve been using the IMSmarter service now for the past two weeks or so, and I must say I’m quite impressed. For those of you who haven’t heard about it the idea is quite simple. Instead of connecting directly to the IM server you connect via the IMSmarter proxy, and all your instant messages are logged by that proxy. So all your conversations are stored at a central server for later access. At first this might sound quite unnecessary as most IM clients already produce logs. But most people, myself included, use IM applications from more than one place (work, home, laptop, hotels etc) and merging all the logs manually is a very time consuming task and not something your likely to do.
The beautiful thing with IMSmarter is that it collects all your logs, regardless of where you signed on from, and merges them into a database of some sort that you can later browse and search, from anywhere, using your browser.
Now, this raises all kinds of privacy concerns but the basic idea is a good one.
