Going to Google

A few months ago I accepted a job offer from Google. Starting next week I’ll be working for them.

For the last couple of months I’ve been busy finalizing my work at Basset, completing the projects I’ve been involved in and handing over my responsibilities. While Basset has been treating me well during the five or so years I’ve been working there I felt it was time to move on.

Google has some of the best DHTML people and brightest programmers, a chance to work with some of them is very exciting.

Without Erik’s encouragement I doubt it would have happened, thank you!

I can’t wait to get started!

    Congratulations Emil!

So you’re moving to the states, huh?
Interesting to see what happened to old classmates. As far as I know the following happened to the other classmates:

me (folo): worked as shop manager and at skatteverket for a couple of years. currently studying economics at linköping university.

john: salesman/department manager @ stadium kista

    sahal: unemployed

david: studying economics at sthlm university

erik: studying some kind of art/handicraft at gotland university. as far as i know he’s pretty successful in his profession and has managed to sell some of his work..

johan: working for unibet in london after graduating at handelshögskolan sthlm last spring

masud: was studying computer science at dsv kista (kth/su) and worked for connex part time last time i heard from him a couple of years ago.

kalle f: still going strong at handelsbanken :o )

Please fill me in if you know the fate of any other old classmates :-]

Wish you good luck at google!

  11. Olof Klarin Says:

    Oh, another fate:

zhino: he dropped his bad boy image, started working like mad (yeah.. like 24h/7d) at the marabou warehouse, saved 300k, bought a nice flat @ torsgatan, moved on as a salesman at brothers kista next to john’s shop. he’s changed sooooo much. met him last midsummer. he dresses like a boyscout, talks almost perfect swedish (as opposed to what he did 8-9 years ago) with a little ‘gay’, so to speak, accent.

  12. David Håsäther Says:

    Congrats Emil :-)

  13. Kurt Johnson Says:

How was Öland this year? Last time I was there was 1998. They had some art exhibit at Borgholmsslott… Some bird flew into one of the glass exhibits and broke it. The artist, in typical Swedish fashion, incorporated the bird and into the now broken piece. Very clever!

Congrats on your position at Google!

  14. Scott Barnes Says:

    Heya,

Sorry, I just updated my blog feeds and noticed yours had so many unread. That being said, Congrats dude! you’ve earned it over the years that’s for sure.

I’m now over at Microsoft so chances are security will swarm into my pod and begin to ask questions “Google, what do you know of this Emil and Google” ;) hehehehe

    Scott.
